Wedding Venue: The Carl House in Auburn, Georgia -- Definitely on my "Must See List"

The folks at the lovely Antebellum-style Carl House welcomed me onto their property a couple of weeks ago for a tour. The  home was elegant and the gardens lush and beautiful. Given the special place in my heart for all things old, I was in hog heaven viewing the details of the woodwork, ceilings, crown molding, antiques and more. It's easy to see why this is an award-winning wedding and event venue. After wandering the property and home for about as long as I thought appropriate for a drop in visit, I had a hard time convincing myself it was time to leave. Now if I could only convince them to let me borrow that beautiful couch for my next bridal show.

Cindy Brown

I'm an Atlanta wedding photographer who takes soulful, quirky and honest photos ...

I'm also an adventurous traveler and all-round nerd. I love to hike with my beagle/cattle dog Roux and best friend/spouse.

I was born in Atlanta, moved around a lot--30 cities and 5 states--and then came back.

After graduating from the Art Institute of Atlanta, I took a job at asmall newspaper in south Georgia, where I photographedhospital teas, pecan farmers, and beauty queens.

I photographed a biker funeral, death penalty protests andTed Bundy while interning with the Associated Press.

While a photographer for two dailies in Florida, I photographed Ronald Reagan, a train derailment and the dedication of a screened-in porch.

An unexpected life turn took me to Vermont where I fell in love with Bernie Sanders and on to Indiana, where I edited photos for a major daily, and nerded out getting a master’s and PhD.

After teaching photojournalism at colleges and universities in Florida, Indiana and Mississippi, I returned to Atlanta to earn myfifth degree--a Master's of Divinity.

My passion for storytelling with my camera and my interest in religious diversity led my to the field of wedding photojournalism.

I have documented weddings large and small, Unitarian and Pagan, indoors and out, Christian and Muslim, in backyards and in churches. The most exotic wedding I have photographed took place in Mexico and was officiated by aMayan shaman.

When I'm not photographing weddings, portraits or corporate events, I work on personal photo projects, visit friends in amemory-care home, and volunteer at a recovery center.

Kate and Kyle visited The Watershed restaurant a few weeks ago in preparation for their May 21 wedding.

Kate's parents, grandparents and their wedding consultant, Hester Parks of the Wedding Soiree, joined them to check out the awesome space at the Watershed and to talk food with Chef Joe Truex.

Here are some photos from another wedding I second shot with my best photo friend Manuel Llaneras. Manuel has been documenting weddings in Atlanta for more than 10 years. He's great to work with. These photos were taken at Kimball Hall, one of our favorite venues.

One of the wonderful things about second shooting for my friend Manuel Llaneras is that I get to photograph some amazing weddings, like this one that took place at the Biltmore a few weeks ago. The children were adorable.

Atlanta Portrait Photographer: Payne Corley House Sip and See

A couple of weeks ago, my partner and I decided to take the folks at the Payne-Corley House in Duluth up on their invitation to come and Sip and See. That particular Saturday afternoon was absolutely gorgeous and afforded us the opportunity to see all sorts of blooming flowers on the property.

The Payne-Corley house, built around 1870, is the oldest standing home in the city of Duluth. It was built as a farmhouse when Duluth was known as "Howell's Crossing." (This is nothing like the three-room farmhouse where my Mom grew up.) Entering the home from the side entrance, we were greeted with this lovely painted porch, one of my favorite parts of the home.

Upon entering the home, we found a lovely assortment of hors d'oevres and desserts displayed. I waited to indulge in the scrumptious chocolate ganache, until after I had tasted some awesome crab cakes and a to-die-for summer gazpacho.

The next Sip and See at the Payne Corley House is June 11th. Stop by for a visit and check out their wedding and event facility space.

The Perfect Wedding Guide Royal Affair and a few Royal Wedding Cartoons

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Perfect Wedding Guide's Royal Affair Luncheon at The Carter Center. BB Webb, Owner of the Carl House (a gorgeous wedding venue in Auburn, Georgia) spoke to the sold-out crowd about Telling the Story of our Businesses. I left with some concrete ideas about ways to imaginatively create a business with a happy ending. And I got to take home this lovely photograph of an encounter I had with Prince William and the lovely Kate Middleton (thanks to the folks at flippity doo da.)

This morning as I was perusing the Atlanta Journal Constitution, I found this wonderful cartoon by Mike Luckovich, which is not longer online in 2019. :)

Which sent me in search of other royal wedding cartoons. Here's a few links I found:

MSNBC slideshow of wedding cartoons

Mail Online | Comic Strip | This is not a cartoon, but a real comic strip, like Dick Tracy.

Greener Wedding Photography: White Glove's Eco Friendly Wedding Albums

eco_book.jpg

I've been working to green my photography business for quite some time. Right now I'm in the process of looking for the perfect eco-friendly wedding album to offer couples. Here's a video from White Glove First Edition Books, the album company that is at the top of the list right now. I'm planning to order a copy to have available for everyone to see at the eco-friendly wedding show I'll have a booth at in June. Pay attention to the tables while the video is playing and you'll see they offer a wide variety of eco-friendly album cover materials.

MAC meets at one of Atlanta's Best Places to Work: Newell Rubbermaid

The Metro Atlanta Chamber, along with the folks at Newell Rubbermaid, hosted a great networking event Wednesday night in Sandy Springs. Mark Ketchum, President & CEO, Newell Rubbermaid, informed guests of the wide range of "Brands That Matter" produced by Newell Rubbermaid. Guests had the opportunity to tour a lobby filled with Newell Rubbermaid products while networking with other business people from the area. Here are a few favorite photos from the event:
