Maggie and Tim's Decatur Square Engagement Safari | Atlanta Wedding Photography

I'm happy to release a few of my favorite photos from Maggie and Tim's delightful engagement safari. We started our afternoon in the lovely garden behind Maggie's parents' house. The family dogs joined in the fun for a while jumping and running and fetching ... well the younger of the two did, anyway. After warming up to the photo shoot process in the back yard, we hit the big time in the front of the Decatur Courthouse, then moved to the canon and on the square. Maggie and Tim love the Raging Burrito, so we staged a few with the Burrito in the background and ended at another favorite hangout, The Brick Store.

I'm an Atlanta wedding photographer who takes soulful, quirky and honest photos ...

I'm also an adventurous traveler and all-round nerd. I love to hike with my beagle/cattle dog Roux and best friend/spouse.

I was born in Atlanta, moved around a lot--30 cities and 5 states--and then came back.

After graduating from the Art Institute of Atlanta, I took a job at asmall newspaper in south Georgia, where I photographedhospital teas, pecan farmers, and beauty queens.

I photographed a biker funeral, death penalty protests andTed Bundy while interning with the Associated Press.

While a photographer for two dailies in Florida, I photographed Ronald Reagan, a train derailment and the dedication of a screened-in porch.

An unexpected life turn took me to Vermont where I fell in love with Bernie Sanders and on to Indiana, where I edited photos for a major daily, and nerded out getting a master’s and PhD.

After teaching photojournalism at colleges and universities in Florida, Indiana and Mississippi, I returned to Atlanta to earn myfifth degree--a Master's of Divinity.

My passion for storytelling with my camera and my interest in religious diversity led my to the field of wedding photojournalism.

I have documented weddings large and small, Unitarian and Pagan, indoors and out, Christian and Muslim, in backyards and in churches. The most exotic wedding I have photographed took place in Mexico and was officiated by aMayan shaman.

When I'm not photographing weddings, portraits or corporate events, I work on personal photo projects, visit friends in amemory-care home, and volunteer at a recovery center.

Family Thanksgiving Get-Together | Atlanta Lifestyle Photographer

Thanksgiving report: My 83 yr old Aunt cooked a turkey and about 10 dishes along with two desserts. She hosted 15-20 people and refused to let anyone help her clean up. She's amazing. Four generations of Aunt Margaret's family came to share in the feast.

Atlanta Family Photographer

My new puppy Roux attended the holiday event and was quite happy when he found the turkey necks that Aunt Margaret had tossed into the woods. No amount of chasing and chastising would convince him to give up his treasure.

The youngest generation of Aunt Margaret's clan enjoyed themselves in various ways.

The big surprise of the day happened when my brother Scott and his wife Kim showed up unexpectedly. They had called about a half hour earlier to tell us Happy Thanksgiving and reported they were on their way to Tahiti for the holiday. LOL

Here's our neighbor Jenn and Jennifer's new puppy, Andi. He's a cutie and a sweetheart. They don't have any information about his Mom or his Dad, but they were willing to adopt him anyway. Looks like they got themselves a gem.

I finished the first draft of Lori and Matt's 10x10 Whistlestop Book today and stopped by their home in Conyers to show it off. I love putting the book together and meeting with couples to see their reaction to the design. Here's a link to Lori and Matt's wedding album design.

Kate Opens Album | Atlanta Wedding Photography

I was excited to hand-deliver Kate and Kyle's wedding book today. Kate is leaving to visit family in California and I wanted to make sure she had the book to show off when she gets there. Kyle is already in California waiting for Kate to join him. Sorry I missed seeing you, Kyle! Here are a few photos of Kate opening and viewing her album:

Perfect Wedding Guide Networking at Purple Rain | Atlanta Wedding Photography

I had the privilege, along with my best photo friend Manuel Llaneras, of photographing the Perfect Wedding Guide networking event at Purple Rain last night. If you've never been to this amazing tapas restaurant lounge, then you need to plan a trip to Duluth. It's worth the trip. Here are a few images that will give you a sense of the place:

Nicole and Patrick's Wedding Album | Atlanta Wedding Photography

3839.jpg

A wedding photojournalist's job is to capture the emotions, the hugs and kisses, the family and friends, the love that tell the story of a wedding day. And the wedding album design is the culmination of a wedding photojournalist's work. I've actually worked as a photojournalist, picture editor and designer for newspapers in previous careers and I bring this experience to the task of designing albums for the couple's whose weddings I document. Except I don't consider it a task. I love doing it.

Here are a few spreads from a recent design, an album for Nicole and Patrick.
