The second of porch portraits from Pine Lake are now hanging in the tennis court on the corner of Lakeshore and Park in Pine Lake.

I began the porch portrait project on April 6, 2020 as folks were beginning to feel the isolation of quarantine. The project was a way for me to stay sane during quarantine and a way to spread a little cheer.

Little did I know when I took the first few photos that the series would result in a book and an outdoor art installation.

An unexpected life turn took me to Vermont where I fell in love with Bernie Sanders and on to Indiana, where I edited photos for a major daily, and nerded out getting a master’s and PhD.

After teaching photojournalism at colleges and universities in Florida, Indiana and Mississippi, I returned to Atlanta to earn myfifth degree--a Master's of Divinity.

My passion for storytelling with my camera and my interest in religious diversity led my to the field of wedding photojournalism.

I have documented weddings large and small, Unitarian and Pagan, indoors and out, Christian and Muslim, in backyards and in churches. The most exotic wedding I have photographed took place in Mexico and was officiated by aMayan shaman.

When I'm not photographing weddings, portraits or corporate events, I work on personal photo projects, visit friends in amemory-care home, and volunteer at a recovery center.

It's taken me a while to post these family photos of the Spencer family, that I took a week before Mother's Day here in Pine Lake.

It can be hard to come up with a gift for Mom that she likes and hasn't seen before. This Mother's Day gift, much appreciated by Mom, can be given yearly, and will always be different.

The Nasty Women of Pine Lake

Sometimes you get a call as a photographer that sets your photo heart on fire. That's what happened when the mayor of the little town where I lived called to ask me to take a photograph of our elected officials.

Sometimes a portrait session is fun, not just because the person you're photographing is delightful to be around, but because they've had to develop a sense of humor. James Brown was just such a person. 

He was born with a name that would soon become famous, and he didn't even have to work for the fame. It just came with the name.

Here's my photo of James Brown, a favorite portrait, as of late. I'm thinking the photograph works because James' sense of humor and calm spirit shines through in the image.
