Photography Spirituality Groups via Zoom Starting March 24th

While a large number of us are self-quarantining due to the Coronavirus, I’ve decided to lead Photography Spirituality Groups on Tuesday afternoons at 1 p.m.

The first topic will be Light and Shadow.

I’ll talk for a little bit about the four aspects of light and how they apply to photography. You can ask questions, if you like.

Then we can talk about analogies we can draw between what we know about light and shadow as they apply to photography and how light and shadow play out in our inner lives.

Kevin and Jamie's White House Party

Last fall, Kevin proposed to Jamie in the Free and Sovereign State of Baja California, a state in Mexico.

The couple returned home to Biloxi, Mississippi where they headed to the local courthouse for a quiet wedding.

And then came the party!

Close friends and family were invited to the White House in Biloxi to celebrate with Kevin and Jamie. And, wow, did folks have fun or what? See photos below, for evidence.

Grace 1720: Perfect for an Intimate Wedding

I often get asked by potential clients or wedding planners if I know of a nice venue for a small wedding or rehearsal dinner.

I’ve recommended quite a few places over the years.

Recently I added Grace 1720 in Peachtree Corners to that list. It made the list after I photographed a small wedding that took place in an upstairs private dining room.

My only disappointment that day … was that I couldn’t stay to share dinner with the bride and groom and guests. I had a prior commitment that kept me from enjoying what I could tell was going to be an amazing meal, (because the food looked beautiful and the crab cake appetizer I had was one of the best I’ve ever eaten.)

Having a small wedding? I’m happy to book wedding coverage in the 4-6 hour range, unlike most luxury wedding photographers.

Why I Love Second Shooting: Part II

A lot of couples prefer two photographers. The main photographer is referred to as the primary shooter. And the extra photographer is referred to as the second shooter.

While, some photographers work in teams, others hire second shooters as needed.

So sometimes, I am called upon to fill the second shooter shoes. Which is actually a lot of fun. While the primary shooter is expected to get all the important photos. The second shooter works under a lot less stress to come up with photos of unexpected moments and photos of expected moments from a different angle.

Here are a few favorites from a wedding at Kimball Hall I second shot with my photo friend Manuel Llaneras.

Catrina Getting Ready: Wedding at Fountain of Faith MBC

Sometimes couples wonder if they really need to have a photographer taking photographs while they are getting ready.

Sometimes, as a photographer, when reviewing the photographs from one of my shoots, I am surprised by one of my own photos.

It doesn't happen all that often, but it's always a delight when it does. The photograph above, taken at Aaron and Catrina's reception at the Marriott Gateway Atlanta, is one of those photographs.

I remember the moments, just a few, when Catrina's Uncle Jerry took to the dance floor to show off his moves. I remember focusing on the action and taking a few shots. But I have no recollection of choosing to focus my camera on the bride's reaction, which, let's face it, is what makes that photograph.

Do I attribute that shift in focus to pure luck, or to a photographer's second sense? I'm not sure. I'm just glad it happened. I'm pretty uncle Jerry will be, too.
