Roux's 1st Birthday Party

Our mixed breed pup Roux celebrated his first birthday on Monday evening with a party in our backyard. We invited several of his puppy friends and their parents to join us. Much excitement ensued as Roux and friends chased each other and played with Roux's new toys. Roux shared dog treat gifts he received with all his puppy friends, although his friend Polo could only have half a treat because he is diabetic. Roux is glad he is not diabetic. I photographed a biker funeral, death penalty protests andTed Bundy while interning with the Associated Press.

While a photographer for two dailies in Florida, I photographed Ronald Reagan, a train derailment and the dedication of a screened-in porch.

An unexpected life turn took me to Vermont where I fell in love with Bernie Sanders and on to Indiana, where I edited photos for a major daily, and nerded out getting a master’s and PhD.

After teaching photojournalism at colleges and universities in Florida, Indiana and Mississippi, I returned to Atlanta to earn myfifth degree--a Master's of Divinity.

My passion for storytelling with my camera and my interest in religious diversity led my to the field of wedding photojournalism.

I have documented weddings large and small, Unitarian and Pagan, indoors and out, Christian and Muslim, in backyards and in churches. The most exotic wedding I have photographed took place in Mexico and was officiated by aMayan shaman.

When I'm not photographing weddings, portraits or corporate events, I work on personal photo projects, visit friends in amemory-care home, and volunteer at a recovery center.

Olivia and Steven attended the Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal show in January and won our engagement session giveaway. Because they are planning a rustic-themed wedding, we decided to head to Roswell Mill and the old covered bridge for our shoot. Erica and Jason's Album Design Party

Saturday afternoon I had the pleasure of celebrating an album design review with Erica and Jason. I decided to bring ice cream for the party. I chose Ben and Jerry's "Everything But The" flavor and a pint of plain vanilla. Aeo the tortoise-shell cat joined the party, but did not imbibe in the ice cream. After we three bipeds enjoyed a bit of both flavors, we retired to the living room to review the album on Erica and Jason's large screen TV. Here are a few of our favorite spreads:

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Rev. Dawn, an interfaith minister who performs lots of interfaith weddings in the Atlanta area. I attended a meetup of Spiritual Entrepreneurs that Rev. Dawn started and got to know her through that event. We decided it would be great for me to head over to her place one day to document the activities of her five-year-old son and his new kitten (and his much shyer cat.) Miles is a deligtful five-year-old full of energy and lots of awesome expressions.

Frances and Jack | Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Rhodes Hall Atlanta

A few weekends back, we were privileged to photograph the nuptials of Frances and Jack. The ceremony took place at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the heart of Atlanta. (Turns out, I was already well acquainted with the officiant, Father Thomas J. Meehan, from my days as a chaplain intern at Grady Hospital and resident at Atlanta Medical Center.) The bride and groom chose to stage a reveal before the ceremony, which is always fun and also allows for a good portion of the posed photos to be taken before the ceremony. The wedding party road together to Rhodes Hall where the bride and groom made their entrance down a curving staircase crowned by stained-glass windows. A live band, great food, lots of friends and family and a stellar send-off made for a wonderful affair. Here are a few of our favorites from the day.

Erica and Jason | Indian Hills Country Club, Marietta

Last weekend we were delighted to photograph the wonderfully quirky wedding of Erica and Jason. There was certainly nothing cookie-cutter about this wedding. The most traditional item at the wedding was the lovely, lace-up wedding dress worn by Erica (and laced up by her three Moms.) The groom, Jason, wore a suit that he described as having that "stuffy, professor look." A game board designer officiated the wedding. The catering staff at the Indian Hills Country Club provided a wonderful breakfast-for-dinner fare that included shrimp grits, french toast, pancakes and lovely fruit cups.
