Jack McBrayer Helps Dementia Spotlight Foundation
/Some of you who follow me on Facebook know that I spent lots of time enjoying my Mom's sense of humor and calm spirit before she died of Alzheimer's earlier this year.
I know first hand that those diagnosed with dementia can continue to live a meaningful life full of loving relationships. I actually grew closer to my Mom during the years she lived with Alzheimer's.
Mom learned to play Wii bowling after moving into a memory care facility in Decatur.
That's why I was excited when the folks at the Dementia Spotlight Foundation, whose mission is to help families see past a dementia diagnosis, called to ask me to photograph their fundraiser showcasing Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock.
“With a focus on LIFE before loss, RIGHTS before research, and CARE before cure, we are dedicated to changing perspective and improving life experiences of individuals, families, and communities affected by the increasing and always changing condition of dementia.”
Robin Andrews, one of the co-founders of the foundation, attended high school with McBrayer, who was happy to help raise money for the cause.
Improv comedians from around the southeast joined McBrayer in a series of hilarious skits.
Also present, to help spread the good news that people diagnosed with dementia can continue to live a fulfilling life, were three men living with dementia. One offered a tip for jogging one's memory. Take a selfie.
Members of the audience joined in on the fun.
Those in attendance were given a basic lesson in improv.
